AIxPA is a three-year PNRR project (2023-2025) aimed at developing a technological solution based on AI (Artificial Intelligence) applicable to specific use cases within the Autonomous Province of Trento (PAT) and able to provide evidence of AI’s ability to support analysis and decision-making processes relevant to the Public Administration (PA).
The project is the first of the four areas of the “Progetto Bandiera” and is structured into two interventions that aim to apply the AI solution in two significant domains for PA:
- Territory and Mobility: the goal of this use case is to provide modelling, analysis, and forecasting systems capable of representing territorial vulnerabilities (both anthropogenic and non-anthropogenic) and their causes, and to support decision-making processes related to land and emergency management linked to these vulnerabilities.
- Productive World: the goal of this use case is to support a set of tools aimed at sustaining company, municipal, and territorial welfare processes, and work-life balance tools aimed at strengthening territorial attractiveness and raising awareness among stakeholders on environmental sustainability issues.
The AIxPA project aims to promote a structural adoption of AI by the PA, enhancing its transformational value and overcoming the current fragmented use of AI, thus providing a scalable model to generate significant impact and growth for the territory.
The AIxPA project work plan is structured into four complementary and synergistic actions necessary to ensure the effectiveness of the solution developed.
The four actions are:
- The design, development, deployment, and implementation of a technological and applicative platform based on AI techniques. The platform will provide tools for modelling, analysis, simulation, and decision-making.
- Design and development of an “AI Toolbox“, a set of reusable processes, models, algorithms, and tools aimed at facilitating and supporting the PA’s use of the platform.
- Identification of areas of interest and significant use cases for AI solutions capable of creating a positive impact on PA, citizens, and businesses, covering the domains of Territory and Productive World.
- Implementation of activities aimed at preserving the innovative value of the developed solution and studying the aspects that may limit its adoption.
I3’s role in the project is to:
- explore the needs, expectations, and values of PAT employees regarding AI-based technologies;
- support the co-design process of modeling and developing the final AI-based solution;
- design and conduct the pilots to test and validate the final solution with the intended users;
- facilitate the design process and communication between different stakeholders and project actors.
