    Toward Intelligent persuasive Interfaces,
    Future intelligent interfaces will have contextual goals to pursue. As opposed to more traditional scenarios of Human Computer Interactin, the user interface mey then also aim at inducing the user - or in general the audience - to perform some actions in the real world. Some forseeable scenarios of this kind are: dynamic advertisement, preventive medicine, social action. Tis prospect has led us to investigate persuasion mechanisms and how they are connected to other related concepts such as argumentation. In modelling persuasion we take a cognitive approcach, considering the state of the participants on the basis of their beliefs-desires-intentions, but also their social ralation, their emtions and context. As far strategies are concerned, argumentation is somehow a subpart of persuasion (being a "resource" usable to "convince someone to d something "). There is more than argumentation in persuasion: we can deal with emotions to induce the receiver to act in a geven way, and/or use ours social power on him (threatening or promising). High level planning, in our mechaninsm, is then combined with the adoption of appropriate rethorical strategies (and other elemets such as lexical choice) for producing an effective and context-adapted message.     The environment as a medium: beyond location-aware interfaces for cultural visits,
    A museum visit is a personal experience encompassing both cognitive aspects (e.g. the elaboration of background and new knowledge), as well as specifically emotional aspects (e.g. satisfaction of interests, fascination for the exhibits). The aim of a museum guide is to integrate the real visit, without competing with the original exhibit items for the visitor’s attention. The environment can be considered as a medium, although apparently a static one. Actually, an automated personal guide can get round the static nature of this medium by dynamically changing the visitor's perception of the environment or by (directly or indirectly) suggesting to the visitor movements in space. In our own work we have given a pre-eminent role to coherent language-based presentations in a physical space. In the paper the main concepts and some future challenges are discussed,

    Navigating by Knowledge,
    In this paper, we introduce a framework to automatically build associations between pieces of information in different media. The key idea is to use a semantic model to co-index the entire information space and exploit the reasoning capabilities of the knowledge base in defining strategies of navigation. The main advantage over traditional hypermedia lies primarily in the ease with which the system can be updated since the new data is automatically conected to the rest of the information. Examples are given from a prototype hypermedia to navigate documentation about the Cycle of the Months of Torre Aquila at the Buonconsiglio Castle in the city of Trento, Italy,
